Changing Places facility at Haymarket Bus Station

Accessible Changing Places installed at Leicester bus station

  • 6 Sep 2016

In a bid to make the city of Leicester more accessible, a Changing Places toilet has been installed at the new Haymarket Bus Station.

The city’s bus station has undergone a complete refurbishment, as part of a citywide regeneration, led by Leicester’s council. The outdated collection of bus shelters that previously stood on the site have been replaced with a contemporary concourse building.

The new building benefits from a Changing Places toilet, which was supplied and installed by Clos-o-Mat

Featuring a ceiling track hoist and a height-adjustable changing bench which can support adults, the new Changing Places facility has been built with enough space to accommodate both users and carers.

The wheelchair-accessible toilet is complemented by the new bus station’s widened, block pavements and Shopmobility centre, which offers free loans of wheelchairs and scooters to disabled visitors. It is also completely level access.

With this new addition, the number of Changing Places toilets in Leicestershire now sits at 20. Current regulations stipulate that it is ‘desirable’ for these facilities to be installed in any public building.

Clos-o-Mat works to provide disabled toilet solutions for domestic and commercial environments. It has installed the majority of Leicestershire’s Changing Places facilities, offering its services from design and commissioning through to aftercare, repair and maintenance.
