In the news this week Tony Blair was commenting on the government’s Energy White Paper which backed renewable energy and efficiency measures. He said again that nuclear power is needed to help reduce carbon emissions and to ensure that the UK has secure energy supplies in the future. No doubt this belated race to build the next generation of nuclear power stations is what is driving the changes to planning regulations announced last week. (more…)

Home Information Packs are in the news again. The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) have been seeking a judicial review because the government had not consulted properly on the law. Then the Conservatives failed in a bid to have HIPs scrapped. The shadow housing minister Michael Gove said it was ‘unprecedented for a professional body to challenge the government in this way. It only emphasises how shambolic the government’s handling of HIPs has been’. (more…)
