Response to Government housing green paper

We had a response to the recent Government housing green paper from Brian Berry, Director of External Affairs at the Federation of Master Builders. He thinks we should concentrate new housing development on existing communities rather than going for a mad dash for suburban and rural housing. Given that by 2050 an estimated two thirds of us will be living in homes that already exist today, the need to modernise and maintain our existing housing stock is also vital to our housing future. Britain’s best building of the last 20 years

Congratulations to the Eden Project which has been named Britain’s best building of the last 20 years by the UK construction industry. The announcement at the British Construction Industry 20th anniversary awards in London was in the Best of the Best Major Projects category and chosen because of its “influence, legacy and public benefit”. Eden was named was named Britain’s favourite modern building in 2005 and has attracted more than 8m visitors and generated GBP800m for the local economy since it opened 6 years ago. (more…)

Crossrail gets the green light

At last, Crossrail gets the green light. The GBP16bn scheme will start in 2010 providing a new railway line through the centre of London, connecting Maidenhead in Berkshire with Essex. It will provide good links to the West End, City and the Docklands business district, both from the west, notably from Heathrow, and from the east, particularly the new housing developments in Thames Gateway and Stratford.
