The world’s first moving building

Did you see the video last week showing the 3D animation of the world’s first moving building? The Dynamic Tower is being built in Dubai. It has 80 storeys made up of pre-fabricated apartments which will spin independently of one another at voice command, a full 360 degrees around a central column by means of 79 giant power-generating wind turbines located between each floor. The building will constantly be changing its shape and will ‘never look the same, not once in a lifetime’ according to the Italian architect. (more…)

71% of housebuilders think IT is key

Last week we featured a White Paper from Bentley Systems about ‘Best Practices for Sustaining Infrastructure’ which emphasised the importance of information technology to changes that will help create a sustainable world. This week we had the results from Autodesk of an independent survey into the use of technology in the housebuilding industry. In light of the current tough market conditions, it is revealed that housebuilders are more and more looking towards implementing systems and solutions to streamline operations and facilitate better collaboration. BE Conference on ‘Sustaining Infrastructure’

Last week I joined around 2,000 attendees at the BE Conference in Baltimore which was focused on ‘Best Practices for Sustaining Infrastructure’. It was a great conference giving me an opportunity to meet infrastructure professionals from around the world. Bentley Systems is now one of the major providers of geospacial software solutions with users in 169 countries that are making a significant impact through designing and building infrastructure that performs better.
