The construction industry should take some heart from the Government’s commitment to protect spending on infrastructure projects. In fact some commentators believe that additional projects may be brought forward as part of an unprecedented spending package to reflate the economy. Interest rates are set to tumble and if lines of credit can be unblocked, perhaps even the future for the housing industry is not as bleak as doomsayers have been predicting. (more…)

This week sees the launch of the new look Buildingtalk complete with features such as project and product photos which many of you have been requesting. This is a great opportunity for companies to ’show’ as well ‘tell’. With so much in our industry that is visual, especially project stories, they add an important dimension to improving the visitor experience at Buildingtalk. Navigation and searching is being improved and more facilities are about to go live including giving visitors direct access video clips of products in action. This year we will have over 3 million visits to the website, checking out over 20 million pages but we are aiming to grow that number considerably and encourage visitors to bookmark and return to Buildingtalk to access information. With 30,000 product, project and technical articles on Buildingtalk, it has become a major resource for specifiers right across the industry. (more…)

Last week we reported on the National Home Improvement Council call for the government to take action to upgrade the 800,000 empty homes around the country . This week the Housing Corporation alerted Government that empty properties may have risen 15% since March and the value of unsold shared-ownership homes may be as high as GBP1bn. (more…)

I have been taking a closer look this week at the changes in visitor experience at some of the websites on offer from the products and services companies who send regular new stories to Buildingtalk. There is a definite shift towards providing much more online than just basic information and contact details, which was mostly what was on offer when we launched Buildingtalk. (more…)
