Next week sees the start of Ecobuild at Earls Court in London. It is billed as the ‘world’s biggest event dedicated to sustainable design, construction and the built environment’. Building industry showing signs of resilience?

According to the February Glenigan Index, the building industry is showing signs of resilience. The Index monitors and tracks the value of all new construction projects across the UK and provides a definitive guide to trends and forecasts. Infrastructure projects still fairing well in downturn

There is further evidence that infrastructure projects are still fairing well in the downturn. For example, Britain’s rail network will see GBP28.5 billion invested over the next five years following a financial settlement last week between Network Rail and ORR. Three power companies also received government permission to build new power stations which could provide up to four million households with energy. Projects like this will create new engineering and construction jobs and boost the ailing economy. However, power station construction is a divisive topic, especially in relation to burning more fossil fuels. (more…)
