Selectaglaze launches new version of its RIBA-approved CPD
’Understanding and specifying secondary glazing’ CPD
The secondary glazing specialist has produced a completely new version of its ’Understanding and specifying secondary glazing’ CPD.
Secondary glazing can be used to
- enhanced window acoustics
- improve thermal performance
- raise security levels
- particularly suited to Heritage buildings
The CPD aims to assist designers in specifying secondary glazing that meets required performance levels while being aesthetically pleasing and integrating sympathetically with other building elements.
It offers guidance on standards for noise insulation, conserving energy and security and deals with a full range of design issues.
Small product samples are made available and detailed seminar notes provided to all participants.
The company has also produced a comprehensive range of support literature which is available free upon request or can be viewed and downloaded from their on-line library (see link above).

Seletaglaze has supplied secondary glazing to improve thermal and noise insulation at flats on London’s Grade II and Grade II* listed Golden Lane Estate. The secondary glazing had to be designed so as not to disturb the existing slim window framing and to be undetectable from the outside. Selectaglaze’s Series 10 horizontal sliding units and Series 90 vertical sliding units were used to complete the project.
As part of the refurbishment of Holme Mills in Bedfordshire, metal framed windows have been overhauled and and made thermally efficient using Selectaglaze’s Series 45 secondary glazing system. The secondary glazing had to be sympathetic to the original window design, therefore a slim hinged casement with flush colour matched hinges and flush lock was specified.
Selectaglaze has installed secondary glazing to draught proof and upgrade the thermal performance of 100 sash windows at Swindon’s former GWR Central Engine Station. The small windows at the Grade II* listed building, now owned by English Heritage, were treated using Selectaglaze’s slim profile Series 20 system while the the heavy duty Series 90 range was used for the larger style sash windows.
Designer, manufacturer and installer of secondary glazing systems, Selectaglaze, has won Security Industry E-Magazine’s Blast Mitigation Product of the Year 2013 Award. The company’s secondary glazing systems involve a separate window being fitted behind an existing window on the inside of a room using strengthened glass, robust frames and locks.
Selectaglaze has launched its ’Designed to Preserve your Style’ brochure, demonstrating to designers and specifiers how secondary glazing can be a stylish and practical way to improve comfort levels in modern and traditional buildings. Secondary glazing can reduce heat loss by more than half, eliminate drafts, enhance safety and security whilst also reducing noise.
