Greenpower electric car racing
Passivent, suppliers of natural ventilation solutions, are to partner Horsfall Racing in the Greenpower electric car racing championship.
In the National Final at the renowned Goodwood circuit, the car- iWhoosh, developed from scratch for the season- won the 24+ event, recording not only the best lap time, of 3'43.447, but the furthest distance ever travelled in the Series- covering over 55miles in the 90 minute race, 10 percent further than its nearest rival.
Founder of Horsfall Racing, 23 years-old Luke Horsfall, works for Passivent in its design department, and has been racing Greenpower cars for almost a decade.
Says Passivent joint managing director Neil Rideout, 'Luke is a true product of what Greenpower is trying to achieve to inspire engineers, having got the taste being part of the Tendring Technolopgy College team, and then made engineering his career choice'.
Adds Luke Horsfall, 'Passivent has helped us achieve a new level of engineering excellence that our, somewhat basic, workshop facilities haven't previous allowed us to attain.
The benefit of having Passivent as a partner is clearly demonstrating in our blazing performance in the National Final'.
Greenpower- a programme supported by Siemens and the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology), aims at encouraging students aged between 9 and 21 to apply eco-friendly solutions to engineering and technology, primarily through the design, development and physical endurance racing of electrically-powered cars.
The programme includes Goblins for primary school children, Formula 24 for 11-16 year-olds, F24+ for 16-25 year-olds, and the Corporate Challenge which includes cars developed by Jaguar Land Rover.
Passsivent has been involved in the scheme for three years, and this year sponsored the Dunsfold Greater London Regional Heat.
Adds Neil Rideout, 'Greenpower and all that it stands for aligns very closely with Passivent's own ethos of applying innovative engineering principles to develop solutions that reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, and encouraging the youth of today to become the engineers of tomorrow'.
