National Apprenticeship Week

Malcolm Stamper from SAS International, at the start of National Apprenticeship Week, comments on the value of increasing the skills base through apprenticeship schemes.

National Apprenticeship Week: 6th - 10th February 2012.

'Investment in the skills base through apprenticeship schemes is essential for future growth of businesses and crucial for UK manufacturing', says Malcolm Stamper.

SAS International currently has apprentices based at its Maybole facilities in Ayrshire where the company has been manufacturing for over 25 years and has plans to introduce further apprentices at its other UK sites.

During the first year of the Apprenticeship Programme (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Engineering) the placement will see the apprentices spend time in different areas of the business to gain a basic understanding of how the business performs and operates.

On completion of the first year the apprentices will be allocated a Mentor to coach and guide them through the next stage of the programme which gives individuals the chance to become involved with the technical aspects of producing specialist Architectural Metalwork solutions.

Maybole, one of three UK SAS International manufacturing facilities, is currently undergoing a 7,500 m2 expansion.

The new extension adds capacity to production of SAS International's range of Architectural Metalwork products and allows further investment in new equipment and processes, to help fulfil orders in both the UK and overseas.

SAS International has designed, manufactured and installed a wide range of projects demanding innovative Architectural Metalwork solutions including BAA London Heathrow Terminal 4, London's Waterloo Station, Chek Lap Kok airport, Hong Kong and The Souk in Abu Dhabi's Central Market.
