Aluflash alternative to lead flashing from Z-Led
Aluflash from Z-Led is an corrosion-resistant aluminium sheet developed as an alternative to lead flashing to eliminate the risk and inconvenience it being stolen.
It is widely used in domestic and heritage buildings both generally and in conservation areas.
Kelly Phipps of Z-Led explained: 'Research shows that many building insurance policies limit claims for replacement to GBP5000 a year, yet the cost of replacing and repairing damage caused by theft of even a comparatively small quantity of lead from a roof can easily exceed that in just one incident, Aluflash looks like lead, performs better, and eliminates the risk of theft as it has little scrap or resale value'.
Aluflash can be used wherever lead flashing would traditionally be used.
It is non-toxic construction means it is suitable for use with rainwater harvesting installations, and prevents oxidisation over time.
It enables easy moulding in both simple and complex planes, to ensure a watertight seal above windows, into gutters and roof valleys, achieve roll joints and similar detailing replicating traditional lead details.
In addition, it is AA fire rated, enabling unrestricted use regardless of the proximity of adjacent buildings.
Z-Led's Aluflash is unaffected by temperature, can be laid in hot or cold conditions and is compatible with all common roof materials.
The material is supplied in 5m rolls, in widths from 150mm- 600mm in 50mm increments, minimising wastage.
As it requires no specialist tools or skills to install, and will not be stolen like lead, it is also delivers enhanced lifetime costings.
Z-Led cost-saving damp-proofing solutions include Aluflash lead alternative as standard in its range of AT abutment and HT horizontal preformed trays.
New Self Adhesive Gas Resistant DPC/Membrane ensures detailing around columns and slabs is as water and soil gas proof as possible.
Z-Led HTR cavity trays installed below the line of the atrium roof helped in the refurbishment of the copper roof of this 45 years-old Grade II* building
Use of Z-Led's MCR Preformed Multi-Crease System means effective prevention of moisture and radon ingress into larger buildings can be achieved more quickly and with less wastage.
The complexity of building or repairing damp proof courses is simplified with Z-Led's HTR refurbishment cavity trays.
