Tremco FA500 translucent silicone sealant

Fourty cartridges of Tremco FA500 translucent silicone sealant helped in the construction of a new headquarters building for the Wildlife Conservation Group in Yorkshire.

The Wildlife Conservation Group monitors the activities of wild animals (especially badgers) throughout the region, rescuing injured animals and responding to road-kill incidents.

To gather its resources in one location, the Group is currently building its own headquarters building, a single-storey structure made of brick, block and green oak.

As a registered charity reliant on donations, the Wildlife Conservation Group launched a campaign for help and appealed to contractors and materials suppliers to donate products and services in support of the scheme.

Tremco Illbruck responded with 40 cartridges of Tremco FA500 translucent silicone sealant which volunteers have used to seal joints throughout the building.

FA500 cures to produce a permanent, flexible elastomeric seal and gives very good adhesion to most common substrates without the need for a primer.

Tremco FA500 is ideal for joints subject to high degrees of movement and is capable of accommodating up to /-50% of the original installed joint width.

Also invaluable on this project has been the gift of Compriband impregnated sealant tape, says Group secretary Paul Hayward:

’The kiln-dried timber windows donated for the building are all perfectly straight and square. But our green-oak frame is far more rustic and is prone to movement. The Compriband sealant has proved the ideal solution to filling the gaps that have occurred between the windows and the frame’, says Mr Hayward.

Compriband is a high-performance, flexible open-cell impregnated foam tape which is both weatherproof and fire-retardant. It is ideal for sealing irregular construction joints and accommodates movement without losing contact with the substrate.

Tremco Illbruck donated 13 rolls of Compriband TP600 to the project, which were used to provide weatherproof seals around the window frames.

’We don’t receive any formal funding so we are wholly reliant on our own volunteers and the generosity of companies like Tremco illbruck’ says Mr Hayward.

’But the building is now nearing completion and we are already using it as the base for our activities.
