An integrated floor treatment specification from Tremco illbruck has been chosen to create a new workshop for a motor racing team.

Thorney Motors, run by John Thorne, prepares BMW and Vauxhall touring cars for the British Touring Car Championship, the CSL Cup and Dunlop SportMaxx series.

They wanted to convert a former agricultural building to provide premises suitable for its exacting work.

Tremco illbruck’s technical sales manager for the region, Tony Lees examined the existing concrete slab.

He then recommended the use of Tremco ES300 Surface DPM, together with compatible floor levelling compounds and surface finishes.

He also put the client in touch with recommended contractor, Surface Systems Coatings, which is based in Swindon.

Managing Director of Surface Systems Coatings, Simon Dyminski, said: “In the case of the contract for Thorney Motors’ new workshops we were initially called in by Tremco following an enquiry the manufacturer had received.

“Basically the client wanted to put new smooth, hard wearing and decorative floor on an existing concrete slab and the Tremco products are ideal to provide them with a heavy duty seamless resin floor, which would be easy to clean and maintain for their working environment.

“We began by bringing in dust controlled diamond grinding equipment to take off any contamination and to suitably prepare the surface.

“Then over the remains of a three day period we applied two coats of Tremco ES300 to suppress the moisture, levelled the uneven floor a using Tremco CS375 Industrial Wearing Screed, followed by Tremco CS350 Self-Smoothing Epoxy Screed in a light grey to complete the floor finish.”
