Mental health facility upgrade for NHS
Race Cottam Associates
Mental health facility
Race Cottam Associates has designed an elderly mental health facility in Chesterfield.
The GBP11m development at Walton Hospital is part of the Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust's initiative for mental health care improvements.
Two wards with 24 beds will replace two demolished buildings which were no longer in use.
Figure of eight wards will ensure there are no dead ends, and wide corridors will maximise natural light.
The facility will provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy and catering services.
The design is the latest of numerous sustainable NHS projects from Race Cottam.
