ICS Eastern and CentraLine by Honeywell project
CentraLine HAWK controller
ICS Eastern installed a fully integrated HVAC system at the new sports complex at Redbridge Sports and Leisure in Barkingside, Essex, complete with a CentraLine HAWK controller.
The new building sits adjacent to the existing leisure centre and houses badminton and netball courts, a cafe area, and various rooms and studios over two floors.
ICS Eastern were tasked with installing a BMS which would cater for the mixed uses, diverse areas and different ceiling heights within the building, while ensuring that the centre remained energy efficient at all times.
ICS Eastern also installed an Energy Remote Monitoring (ERM) system for Redbridge to enable the centre to take measures to reduce its consumption further.
The project demanded full integration of the HVAC system, third party controllers and all energy meters, which is why a CentraLine HAWK controller was specified by the project engineers and installed by ICS.
This controller allows all aspects of the building's BMS to be operated from a single point for facilities managers.
A brand new front end was also installed in the main plant room for the ERM and HVAC information to feed into and generate graphic displays for users.
ICS Eastern was able to programme this to enable remote access for the site operators to control the system and set the time and temperature, as well as monitor energy usage from any PC within their network using a dedicated IP address - from outside of the plant room.
Nico Fileccia, project engineer at ICS Eastern, commented: "Some of the ceilings within the new centre are up to 9.5m high meaning for facilities managers there is limited access to the air handling units which are installed.
A HAWK controller was the perfect solution to enable ease of operation and also remote access for operators.
Based in Norfolk, ICS is a specialist in providing building management systems (BMS), motor control panels and electrical solutions, with its own installation team and panel workshop.
Partnering with CentraLine has allowed ICS to extend its HVAC and security product capabilities to include third party integration, by utilising BACnet technologies.
Nico continued: 'Integrating BMS packages reduces costs for customers, and offers a smarter, more energy efficient, system for building occupants.
This combined with energy monitoring allows the operator to manage its energy consumption by highlighting the areas of the building which consume the most energy with a view to looking to ways to reduce this, all from a single point of control'.
Redbridge Sports and Leisure opened in 1972 and offers local community members an array of activities such as hockey, karate, squash, football and tennis on a 'pay-as-you-go' basis as well as a full health and fitness suite, bar and restaurant and outdoor sports facilities.
The KNX seminar at The Lowry, Manchester, called ’BS EN 15232 – The Impact of Building Automation on Energy Efficiency’, is for building professionals including consultants, building services engineers, building managers/owners and architects. The seminar will look at how to achieve Class A energy building performance and the role KNX intelligent building technology in providing the optimum solution to support BS EN 15232.
New nationwide research shows landlords and developers that younger generation demand digital TV service in new homes. More than half (52%) of 18-34 year olds in the UK now expect access to digital TV service as a standard ’utility’ within their homes, and only a quarter (26%) consider it an optional luxury. The survey, commissioned by Sky, found that only 4% of young people are satisfied with terrestrial TV in their new home, but 78% want access to a digital TV service.
KNX intelligent building controls are now in use at The Crystal, a Sustainable Cities Initiative by Siemens. KNX helped the building - a new conference centre, urban dialogue platform and technology & innovation centre - achieve top BREEAM and LEED ratings for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. KNX is the world’s only open standard for all applications in home and building control.
