Improving access for all at The Malls

Changing Places toilet, Clos-o-Mat Palma ‘wash and dry’ toilet

To improve toilet facilities, an accessible Changing Places toilet has been installed The Malls shopping centre as part of an upgrade by Basingstoke & Dean Borough Council.

Disabled toilet provider, Total Hygiene - sponsor of the Changing Places campaign - designed and installed the Changing Places toilet.

A Changing Places toilet is larger than a conventional accessible toilet.

It is designed to cater for those with profound and multiple learning disabilities and other severe disabilities who need the help of at least one carer.

It features a peninsular toilet, changing bench and hoist as standard.

The Council also specified the inclusion of a Clos-o-Mat Palma ‘wash and dry’ toilet, with a touch sensitive hand switch and soft seat.

The Clos-o-Mat looks like a traditional toilet, but has an integral douche and drier to eliminate the need for a user or carer to manually cleanse after toileting.
