Microgeneration buys building engineering business

Microgeneration

H W Smith and Son acquisition

Microgeneration, providers and installers of renewable energy systems, has acquired building engineering services company H W Smith and Son (Contracting) Limited.

The newly-combined business provides customers with a one stop shop service, with access to qualified advisors on the most suitable renewable energy solution for their premises - domestic or commercial - through to installation and support.

The 60-strong business has ambitious plans for growth, as take-up of renewable energy is set to increase seven-fold by the end of the decade.

The Feed-In Tariff has already resulted in a 200 per cent increase in enquiries over the past two months, and this is set to continue.

Future demand for low carbon solutions is also expected to grow from the Renewable Heat Incentive and the impacts of the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme.

Founded in Manchester in 2005, Microgeneration is now headquartered in Cornwall and delivers projects across the UK.

Focused solely on renewable energy solutions, the company has achieved accreditation under the UK Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) to design, install and commission solar thermal systems, ground, water and air source heat pumps, biomass systems and solar photovoltaic systems.

The acquisition will result in the retraining of some H M Smith and Son employees in renewable energy technology.
