PK refurbished building for York University

PK Accommodationcontact supplier

A modular building from PK Accommodation provided the additional working space required due to rapid expansion at the University.

The University were determined to deliver interim accommodation on site and as quickly as possible.

A modular building was the obvious option until a long term solution for new buildings and classrooms is in place.

Following an initial enquiry in June 2011 potential users of the building from York University visited PK’s premises.

Over the following 6 - 8 weeks PK worked hard to develop and agree on buildings technical requirements.

There were many specification variations, the most significant one being the requirement for the building to have a Building Management System (BMS).

This involved a redesign of the comfort heat/cool system to accommodate the BMS controller.

The building comprises 3 research write up spaces plus 1 teaching room on ground floor, plus 10 offices on the first floor, accommodating a total of around 90 people.

Commenting on the project, Russell Bailey, Project Manager at the University of York, commented: ’We have absolutely no complaints about the PK Accommodation team’.

’They worked at break-neck speed to get the modular building up and running and were always very helpful on site, especially their Project Manager who always went that extra mile to make sure we were happy’.

The building is intended to be on its present site for a period of 5 years after which it will be moved to another part of the campus where it will probably stay for the rest of its useful life.
