International Timber clads Edinburgh apartments

International Timber

Iroko cladding

International Timber, part of Saint-Gobain Building Distribution's Timber Group, has supplied McCluskey Joinery with lacquered Iroko cladding for a residential development in Edinburgh.

Iroko cladding was used on the third floor of the Caer Amon apartment building.

McCluskey Joinery was contracted by property developer AMA to carry out the roof joinery and timber cladding works and approached International Timber to supply Iroko.

Working with conjunction with coatings specialist Sikkens, International Timber provided the timber pre-lacquered, which represented a saving for McCluskey Joinery and the main contractor in terms of cost and site time.

Iroko first made inroads into the UK market in the seventies as a substitute for teak.

It offered a cheaper alternative to this timber, displaying similar characteristics with its golden colouration and high durability.

It is now a popular choice for external cladding in modern architecture.

International Timber supplies timber solutions, providing a superior range of products in hardwoods, softwoods, clear softwoods and treated products, as well as standard and bespoke machined profiles.
