Refurbishment of The Hermitage, built in 1863 and now part of the Solihull Community Housing portfolio, aimed to retaining the buildings original character. Swish Building Products were specified, using their standard decorative UPVC profile range to replicate the original ornate roofline but also provide high performance and low maintenance. Swish rainwater products, manufactured from 84% recycled material, were also specified.

Alumasc Rainwater has launched its AX Extruded Aluminium Gutter System as an alternative to uPVC. Manufactured from 100% recyclable aluminium, the new guttering is designed to be highly corrosion resistant, with a life expectancy of up to 40 years.

The new Neo Bankside development situated on the South Bank of London’s river Thames features a Harmer SML lightweight cast iron soil and waste drainage system from Alumasc. The Harmer SML system has been designed to be quick and easy to install, recyclable and durable and requires very little maintenance. It meets the new CE Marking requirement and includes ductile iron brackets.

Specialist Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) engineers GRPlite worked with Scottish architect Andrew Hamilton and the Vindolanda Trust, one of Europe’s most important Roman archeological sites, to help recreate a 50 metre section of an ancient aqueduct, strong and resilient enough to take the weight of people. To manufacture the GRP aqueduct sections, GRPlite were supplied with an actual Roman channel stone from the aqueduct so that they could hand-produce an accurate mould.
