VELUX plans to deliver 20,000 Natural Light solar lamps to support sales agents in off-grid communities, based in Sierra Leone, Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
The station opened in October 2015 and has been shortlisted in the Commercial Build category of the Northern Design Awards for 2015.
One year after VELUX partnered with Little Sun and Plan International to bring sustainable light to Africa, the first solar lamps have arrived.
The aim of the project was to improve the thermal performance and energy efficiency of the building by installing Kalwall panels, designed to transmit light evenly into the main rooms. Kalwall can achieve a U value of 0.28W/m²K when the 70mm thick translucent panels are filled with an aerogel.
