Closomat Changing Places offers solution to new school toilet guidelines

  • 30 Apr 2018

Closomat is helping commissioners and providers to meet the new guidelines, following the updated guidelines on school toilet provision.

Closomat is offering a complete package which includes design advice, supply install, and servicing/maintenance, to enable children at school to have the privacy and independence they need to be able to enjoy their education.

With more than 10% of schoolchildren suffering from a continence problem and children in SEND schools having various toilet issues to contend with, it’s vital that facilities at schools meet all requirements to minimise the amount of education that children will miss.

Therefore, the Department for Education updated its Building Bulletin to advise the importance of properly sized and specified hygiene rooms.

BS8300:2018 design for an accessible and inclusive built environment specifically itemises educational establishments as buildings covered by its ‘best practice’ remit, particularly with regard to a Changing Places assisted accessible toilet facility. The new British Standard notes replacement of a conventional WC with a wash & dry toilet, certainly in a Changing Places, enhances dignity and independence for the user.

A Changing Places facility offers the ability to wash and dry, making it ideal for schools as it relieves staff of the responsibility of cleaning pupils and also satisfies Islamic personal hygiene requirements.
