Closomat is ensuring all facilities are fully inclusive ahead of Purple Tuesday

  • 28 Sep 2018

The UK’s first accessible shopping day will be held this November, and Closomat is helping retailers prepare for the event by making facilities more inclusive for customers with disabilities.

It is a fact some of the participants of Purple Tuesday (to be held on November 13th) have already recognised, including Bullring Birmingham. Closomat has added a state-of-the-art assisted accessible toilet- Changing Places- to Bullring’s customer facilities offering.

Kelvin Grimes, Closomat away from home project manager, comments: “We know, from personal experience and our work with campaigners for assisted accessible toilets- Changing Places- that too often disabled people, and their carers, make a conscious decision NOT to go somewhere if they believe they won’t be able to find suitable toilets. Some 20% of the UK population is registered disabled.”

Closomat’s Changing Places toilet offers a solution – in addition to standard wheelchair accessible toilet facilities, a Changing Places is bigger (12m 2 ), and features a ceiling track adult-sizedt sized height adjustable changing bench and privacy screen.

In addition, with space an issue for many retailers, Closomat offers a great compromise in the form of Space to Change – providing an extra 5m2 to accommodate a hoist and adult-sized changing bench.
