New CPD from top disabled toileting solutions provider
Changing Places CPD
Changing Places CPD on latest British Standards and disability legislative changes on accessible toilet provision, developed by Total Hygiene.
The CPD covers appropriate legislation (Equality Act 2010), British Standards such as BS8300:2009 on building design for disabled people, through to the full specification criteria and equipment required to create a Changing Places toilet, which is different to standard disabled toilets with extra features and more space.
As sponsor of the Changing Places campaign for these accessible toilets in areas and buildings to which numbers of the public have access, Total Hygiene has the expertise to cover the topic.
Total Hygiene marketing manager Robin Tuffley, explains ’We all go to the toilet on average 8 times a day; able people take it for granted that they can spend a penny when out and about, but for disabled people, especially those who need the help of at least one carer, even standard accessible (Document M) toilets are not always suitable, hence the Changing Places concept’.
- One in six of the UK population - more than 10million people- has a limiting illness that impinges on their ability to carry out daily life
- 20 million are affected by bladder and bowel continence
- Over 1.5million wheelchair users.
- Therefore, there is a significant number of people who need more accessible toilets
Since the campaign began, over 400 Changing Places toilets have been opened across the UK, of which a third have been installed in the past year alone.
Adds Robin, ’The statistics demonstrate the demand, and need, for such facilities, and for specifiers to know as much as possible about them’.
