JB Shingles collect UK Roofing Award

  • 4 Aug 2016

London Care Partnership’s Alexandra Gardens Care Home in Hounslow has collected the Sustainable Roof (Shingles and Shakes) award at the UK Roofing Awards 2016 for its use of Marley Eternit’s JB Shingles.

The project involved the creation of six single-storey apartments set in a small woodland enclave adjoining to the main building.

The apartments were designed to a high standard of specification to fully support the needs of its residents – young people up to 35 years old who receive specialist residential support to help them achieve greater independence and in preparation for the transition to supported living.

London Care Partnership’s specified JB Western Red Cedar Shingles for the building’s roof, installed by Endeavour Roofing Contractors.

Cliff Hamilton from LCP has specified JB Shingles on a number of projects for ‘their beauty and performance in transforming a development and creating something that sits very well in its environment.’

JB Shingles were also specified for two other projects shortlisted in the Shingles & Shakes category; Culzean Castle Country Park Cottages in Maybole (DM Roofing & Roughcasting) and Pilgrims’ Cross C of E Aided Primary School in Andover (Avonside Roofing).

Western Red Cedar Shingles are one of few products outside of the USA and Canada to achieve membership of the Cedar Shake and Shingle Bureau (CSSB) in terms of sustainability and are graded Blue Label signalling highest quality.

JB Shingles also have one of the lowest carbon footprints of any widely used building product due to being lightweight for transport and demonstrating properties such as high thermal performance and durability.
