Knauf Insulation has formed a partnership with construction data expert’s coBuilder for digitising and delivering BIM-ready product data on goBIM.
goBIM is a product data template-based BIM data software launched by coBuilder that allows manufacturers to share data in a structured way based on European, national, industry-wide, legal and market-specific requirements and standards.
The free-of-charge tool enables designers and contractors to exports the data in the languages and BIM formats they require, including formats such as COBie, and allows them to link it directly to models in Revit, Navisworks and ArchiCAD.
By distributing its product data on goBIM, Knauf will allow its customers to query product properties and subsequently have the data mapped and structured to BIM formats such as IFC, Revit, or ArchiCAD. Once BIM-ready, users will be able to browse Knauf products based on specific property criteria, such as fire ratings, to enable them to easily find the most suitable solutions for their projects.
Developed in conjunction with the CEN 442 WG4 committee on data dictionaries and standards, the Product Data Templates (PDTs) in goBIM are based on properties described in CEN, CENELEC, ISO, national standards, and openBIM formats i.e. IFC/COBie or data required by professionals.
This approach allows them to be altered according to different use cases, so once data is added by the manufacturer it can be used any of the formats required by the manufacturers or their supply chain.
CoBuilders uses the buildingSMART Data Dictionary to map Knauf Insulation’s data to major naming conventions such as the European Uniclass and the American Omniclass.
goBIM is now open for registration, free of charge, for UK and international manufactures to enable them to digitise up to three of their products by creating Product Data Sheets. The software recently won the 2016 CE Wales Award for Innovation.
