Aardvark Concrete strengthens its position as the North West's leading concrete specialist with the acquisition of a rival supplier.

The company has purchased the ready-mix concrete division of Middlewich-based business, Cheshire Concrete Products, for an undisclosed fee This is the first acquisition the Stockport-based supplier has made since launching in 2002

Last year, Aardvark's turnover was in the region of GBP1.5 million.

In 2008, it's expected to hit GBP2.5 million, as a result of organic growth.

That is expected to increase by a further GBP600,000 following the company's first acquisition.

The move also significantly enhances Aardvark's geographical reach, providing an added presence in areas such as Chester, Frodsham and north Stoke.

The concrete supplier has taken over the company's volumetric concrete mixers, together with its client base.

This enhances Aardvark's position as the leading specialist concrete supplier in the region.

John Kilroe, managing director of Aardvark Concrete, commented: "The acquisition of Cheshire Concrete Products' ready-mix division marks a significant stage in Aardvark's ambitious growth strategy".

"The deal not only provides us with an increased presence in the North of England, but it further strengthens our capabilities in the volumetric concrete supply sector".

The acquisition follows the recent launch of new household division, Aardvark Driveways - a specialist in decorative concrete.

The division - which currently operates exclusively from Woodford Park Garden Centre, Cheshire - designs and installs custom-made driveways, patios and paths that combine traditional designs with modern materials.

Kilroe added: "Our aim is to be a multi-disciplined supplier within the next two years, providing a range of specialist services to trade contractors, homeowners and large commercial customers.".
