Aarsleff selected for Welsh Assembly
Aarsleff Piling has been selected to install the precast concrete foundation piles to support the Welsh Assembly Government's new GBP20 million office in Aberystwyth.
Main contractor Carillion National Building awarded Aarsleff an approximate GBP230,000 supply, handle, pitch and drive contract to install around 350 piles for the new office in Ffordd Parc-y-Llyn, which will accommodate up to 535 staff when it is completed in the spring of 2009 The new Aberystwyth office marks the latest stage in the Assembly Government's commitment to disperse civil service jobs throughout Wales, and not have them concentrated mainly in the southeast

Aarsleff piles along silently in Lincoln
Aarsleff Piling is using a Tosa Still Worker silent hydraulic pile driver in Lincoln to install a cantilevered steel sheet piled retaining wall.
Aarsleff, using two of its own Banut 700 self-erecting rigs, initially carried out in January an extensive regime of ground probing and dynamic pile testing on the site, in conjunction with independent testing company Precision Monitoring and Control, to determine the lengths of the piles required.
About 60% of the piles were 300 mm square section and designed to take a compressive load of 675kN and the remainder were 250 mm square with a working load of 490 kN.
All piles were made by Aarsleff's subsidiary Centrum Pile, which is the first and believed to be the only precast pile manufacturer in the UK to achieve accreditation to the new stringent precast pile manufacturing standard, EN 12794, including CE marking of its precast concrete piles and mechanical jointing system, prior to the standard's formal introduction in January 2008.
When Aarsleff finished testing, the piles were formalised at an average length of 12m.
The specialist driven piling contractor then took about three weeks to install the piles and completed the work in early February.
