Centrum piles to 5 million metres
Centrum Pile, the UK's leading and largest manufacturer of continuously reinforced precast concrete piles, recently reached the major milestone at its factory in Nottinghamshire.
On 13 May the company cast its 5 millionth linear metre of precast concrete pile after almost 15 years at the Newark facility "This is a major achievement for our dedicated team since we first started production here in 1993 and is an indication of the growth and performance of Centrum during this time," says Centrum Pile General Manager John Ward

"To put our growth into perspective it took 5 years and 6 months to cast the first million, 3 years and 4 months to cast the second million, 2 years and 1 month to cast the third million, 2 years and 1 week to cast the fourth million and finally 1 year, 10 months and two weeks to cast the fifth million".
Centrum will soon have the added capacity to further boost its performance as the company is progressing with a major extension to its precast concrete pile manufacturing plant.
Commissioned by its parent Aarself Piling, the new factory extension is part of a major GBP6.7M expansion of Centrum and Aarsleff's operations at its Newark premises, which will also include a significant increase in the size of Aarsleff's office block.
The Centrum extension will house a new precast concrete pile casting hall, incorporating the very latest automated production techniques ensuring even higher quality and lower production costs.
The new automated plant, which is expected to be in full production by autumn 2008, will boost Centrum's capacity by 80% to a maximum of 30,000 linear metres/week to fulfil future requirements.
Centrum Pile, formed in 2000 as a subsidiary to its specialist driven piling contracting parent Aarsleff Piling, now manufacturers approximately 45% of its piles for a wide range of customers other than Aarsleff.
Centrum is also believed to be the UK's only precast concrete pile manufacture in compliance with the stringent new European Standard BS EN12794:2005 Precast concrete products.

The standard, formally introduced in January 2008, allows Centrum Pile to produce and supply piles with the CE mark of conformity.
