ABB Building Systems has completed an £8.1 million project to provide the entire mechanical and electrical installation for the new Hexham General Hospital.

The new Hexham General Hospital, set to receive its first patients in July this year, is a £28 million investment through a private finance initiative by developer Catalyst Healthcare Features of the 160,000ft2 facility include diagnostics and treatment departments that support 27-bed medical and rehabilitation wards, a 28-bed surgical ward, a 10-bed maternity unit and six-bed coronary care unit

Dedicated to constructive partnering, ABB worked in close co-operation with Bovis Lend Lease, with whom it has a strong working history, to ensure the smooth completion of the project with the objective to meet all customer requirements and expectations.

ABB's 85-strong team supplied, installed, tested and commissioned a diverse range of installations including power, lighting and air distribution; nurse call system; a standby generator; and various other auxiliary systems.

Not only did ABB complete the work on time and to budget, but received special praise from prime contractor Bovis for the high standard of processes that were put in place to ensure the safety of everyone on site.

Business Manager of ABB's Washington Office, Stuart Bolam comments: 'I am delighted with the outstanding team effort that has brought this landmark venture to fruition.

To deliver a complex project such as the Hexham Hospital PFI on time required an extremely high degree of professionalism.

Close liaison between both our own mechanical and electrical teams and the prime contractor was also of crucial importance'.
