New HVAC Automation Provides Seamless Connectivity
ABB's drives for the HVAC sector are now supported by software drivers for the Compass protocol conversion system, from North Communications.
As principal contractor, Inviron had overall responsibility for Health and Safety and the general running of the project, while carrying out the installation/modification of environmental air systems; design and installation of main and emergency lighting systems; installation of small power; installation of the fire suppression system; and the provision of associated building works.
The 900 m2 area is served by a re-circulatory air handling unit (AHU), which has been modified to cater for the new environmental conditions required for the storage of the media.
While original heater battery, humidifier and cooling coil within the AHU have been retained, new steam control valves have been provided to the heater battery and humidifier to deal with the change in demand.
A new de-humidifier, comprising two separate 'process' and 'regeneration' air circuits, has been installed to provide the relatively low humidity required of 40-50%.
To serve the AHU and de-humidifier, a new 'Trend' Series 200 outstation has also been wired-in within the existing Building Energy Management System.
Another aspect of the refurbishment has been the installation of a new main lighting system.
Designed by Inviron, it is arranged in zoned areas, with retractive switches controlling the fittings within each zone.
The fittings incorporate IQ controlled ballasts, which enable the retractive switch to only energise the fittings in that zone.
The zone stays energised for 20 minutes at a time.
Inviron project manager, Andy Harwood, comments: "The project was challenging, particularly the overhaul of the environmental air system".
"The whole system has been either renewed or overhauled, and we have aimed to deliver an excellent air quality for storing media and a lighting system that is attractive, cost-effective and efficient.".
