The new Smartair off-line access control systems
Abloy UK has launched Smartair, a new range of off-line access control systems, to be supplied via installers and specifically aimed at SME customers.
As Kingston's site security executive, Carl Fothergill, points out: "The degree and nature of the security required at each of our sites varies considerably".
"For our regional offices, often with several floors and with tens or in some cases hundreds of employees, we need to provide highly sophisticated access control; conversely for our network switch boxes, many of which control telecommunications for hundreds or thousands of subscribers, we have to prevent access through robust and often highly visible mechanical deterrents, such as padlocks".
"In addition, some of our smaller offices are located in areas where there are high levels of crime and personal assaults, so we have to protect staff while they are at work".
Although Kingston has worked with Abloy Security, along with other competitors, for a number of years it is only recently that a strategic decision was taken to foster long-term partnerships with a small number of key suppliers.
Abloy Security was chosen for this role due to its experience within the telecommunications industry, the quality of its products and services and the depth of its product range.
Foremost among these products are systems designed to provide multi-level access control through master key systems.
At Kingston's office site, Melbourne House in Wakefield for example, the two companies have jointly developed a five tier security methodology, based largely on Abloy Disklock Pro master key system.
Depending on the security clearance of different members of staff or site visitors, this restricts or enables access to different parts of the building; tier five access being for engineers and contractors, while tier one clearance is for senior security managers only.
Abloy Disklock Pro is essentially a tough and reliable mechanical locking mechanism, based on rotating disc cylinders, together with a sophisticated master key system that enables almost two billion possible key combinations to be created.
The construction of the rotating disc cylinder mechanism is virtually pickproof and can be used in a wide range of door rim and deadbolt locks, cabinet locks and padlocks. Request a free brochure from Abloy UK ...
Carl Fothergill concludes: "Although we currently have a number of lock and access control systems across the group we are steadily replacing these with Abloy based equipment, enabling us to increase even further our control of keys and access cards and, perhaps as importantly, to minimise our capital and maintenance costs while significantly improving the security of plant, premises and staff.".
