Wireless locking increases access-control security

An Abloy UK product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Mar 31, 2009

Aperio wireless locking technology from Assa Abloy is said to link physical security with access-control systems.

Aperio increases the number of doors that can be integrated into an access-control system, raising the level of control a security, IT or facilities manager has over a system.

With Aperio, users can upgrade existing doors that are not currently controlled by an access-control system.

The Aperio cylinder, which incorporates the reader and locking mechanism, communicates over an encrypted wireless link to an Aperio hub typically mounted in close proximity to the door.

The Aperio hub also provides an RS485 serial interface, allowing for communication with the access-control system.

A user wishing to enter through a door presents their card to the cylinder.

The reader in the cylinder reads the card data and transmits this over the secure wireless link to the hub.

The hub in turn transfers the data on to the access-control system and awaits the lock/unlock command from the host.

Visitors to the Assa Abloy stand at IFSEC 09 at the NEC in Birmingham will be able to see a range of Aperio products on display: from the electronic escutcheon and electronic cylinder to the wireless-communication hub.
