ABBE Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment

An ABBE product story

BRE Training has become the first approved ABBE centre in the UK to offer the new ABBE Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment.

The qualification, which is the only one of its kind to be approved by Ofqual, certifies a practitioner's competence in performing fire risk assessments, which are required for all types of business by law.

The Level 3 qualification enables successful candidates to produce fire risk assessments of less complex buildings, such as offices, theatres or shops with less than 300 occupants.

A further ABBE Level 4 qualification that will enable practitioners to produce assessments of more complex buildings is currently in the pipeline.

BRE has been delivering fire risk assessment training for several years, and has built up a considerable level of expertise in the area.

Now thanks to its approval as ABBE's first centre to offer the Level 3 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment it will be able to provide successful candidates with a government-recognised award.

BRE Training Director, Chris Broadbent said: "We're thrilled to be the first centre to be given full approval to deliver this unique qualification".

"BRE is a long-standing provider of fire risk assessment training, and now we are able to offer an accredited course which is recognised by employers and institutions throughout the UK".

The course will initially be delivered at BRE's training centre in Watford.

Students will receive class-based tuition with practical exercises and then go on to complete practice assessments of real buildings in order to demonstrate their competence in fire risk assessment.

ABBE Chief Executive Roger Bishop added: "All ABBE centres undergo a rigorous independent approval process to ensure that they have the appropriate resources to deliver training and assessment".

"We are delighted that BRE is the first centre to be able to offer this new qualification, which will enable businesses to ensure that fire risk assessments are undertaken by suitably qualified individuals".

Fire risk assessments help to maintain the safety of a building's staff and visitors, as well as reducing the risk of an outbreak of fire.

The ABBE Level 3 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment has been designed to be suitable for people with no prior knowledge of fire safety, as well as those with some experience.

Roger continued: "Fire risk assessments are crucial for all types of business, as they enable people to minimise fire hazards and to plan what to do in an emergency".

"Since October 2006 all businesses have required them by law, but more importantly they can help to reduce the human and business costs if a fire does break out.
