Acheson and Glover Group has supplied 10,000sq m of its distinctive paving to the new Marshes shopping centre in Dundalk, Northern Ireland.

Irish landscape products specialists, Acheson and Glover Group has supplied 10,000sq m of its distinctive paving to the new Marshes shopping centre in Dundalk, Northern Ireland Through this and other prestige projects, the Company is earning a rapidly growing reputation as a one-stop shop for hard landscaping products for retail parks, shopping centres and other high profile developments

Designed by Belfast-based MWA Partnership, the Marshes scheme features Acheson and Glover's BSI-certified TerraPave natural aggregate flags.

Specially created to enhance the built environment, the sophisticated range of paving flags has captured the imagination of architects, engineers and contractors since its launch five years ago.

TerraPave flags are made from naturally coloured aggregates and are available in a variety of colours with either ground or textured finishes.

More than 5,000 sq m of Sorrento Textured and Pollensa Textured flags were used in the Marshes' plaza area.

These not only enhance and complement the scheme's period architecture - they also provide a hardwearing finish that can easily stand up to the daily demands of a busy centre.

A further 5,000 sq m of Acheson and Glover's TerraPave Boulevard block paving was used to pave the walkways to the shopping centre's two main car parks.

A modern, hardwearing and cost effective range, Boulevard's attractive colours blend in effortlessly with the surrounding buildings.

Because the product has a flat top pencil edge, it reduces rumble noise from trolleys, making it an ideal choice for retail environments.

John Eggleston, director of project landscape architect, MWA Partnership, is delighted with the finished result.

"TerraPave natural aggregate flags were the preferred choice of paving to form the main pedestrian circulation space around the main shopping centre and were combined with the Boulevard range to create 'The Street' and 'The Square' flexible-use, outdoor display and drop-off areas.

"The pavement choice produced an external environment that complements the main shopping centre facade with its use of reconstituted stone, completing the Plaza theme," says John.

Built by McLaughlin and Harvey, the centre was designed by WDR and RT Taggart of Belfast - one of Ireland's largest multi-disciplinary professional practices.

The 400,000 sq ft development opened in late 2005 on a 28-acre town centre site.

Other major projects Acheson and Glover has recently been involved in with Ireland include Dublin's Airside retail park, Sligo retail park and Holywood Exchange, the prestigious retail-warehousing scheme in Belfast Harbour Estate.
