Aconex will provide its online information management service to Sydney Ports Corporation's Port Botany Expansion project.

Aconex will provide its online information management service to Sydney Ports Corporation's $500 million Port Botany Expansion project (PBE) The system will facilitate communication and collaboration between teams working on the project

Port Botany is one of Australia's leading ports, handling one third of the nation's container traffic and Sydney Ports Corporation is expanding its container terminals in Botany Bay to meet forecast trade increases.

Situated approximately 12km south of Sydney's central business district, the expansion project is one of the largest port redevelopments undertaken in Australia in the past 30 years and incorporates nearly two kilometres of new berths as well as associated road and rail works and dredging.

The project is likely to generate hundreds of thousands of documents and pieces of correspondence that will need to be shared between Sydney Ports Corporation and a number of private sector suppliers, so effective information management will be crucial.

Aconex will be used to store and manage PBE project information - such as plans, drawings and correspondence - online in a secure, central site.

Using the web-based Aconex system will allow organisations to access their information instantly, distribute large documents electronically and track the status of all correspondence - saving time, cutting administrative costs and reducing risk.

Colin Rudd, Sydney Port Corporation project director, said: "It is very important that the project has an efficient way of communicating and managing information and documentation".

"Aconex is a very efficient way of managing all of that information".

"It is a simple way of getting project teams communicating through the web, and cuts down on the number of letters and hard-copy drawings that we have to courier.".
