Aconex streamlining communication, reducing risk
Aconex will provide its online information management service to Gulf Development Real Estate Company's Sarab Al Areen (Sarab) project in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Effectively managing this flow of information will be crucial to completing the development on time and budget.
Bill Thompson, Manager Engineering, Bilfinger Berger Services, head contractor on the project, said: "Aconex allows us to efficiently distribute and receive project documentation and correspondence electronically".
"It provides a verifiable record of document delivery and overcomes the endemic problem of emails being lost or misfiled." Thompson added: "The latest project documentation is also always available for viewing or downloading by all authorized project participants, eliminating the need for each party to keep their own documentation registers".
"We find Aconex a valuable tool for delivering our projects." Bilfinger Berger previously used Aconex on the construction of a $48 million biodiesel production facility in Australia's Northern Territory and an increasing number of engineering and resources organizations are now using online collaboration tools such as Aconex.
Leigh Jasper, Aconex Managing Director said: "The engineering sector faces a considerable challenge to manage the quantity of data on projects".
"It has become evident that relying on paper documents is expensive and inefficient, while in-house document management systems were just not created for the collaborative environment".
"Aconex provides central, independent and secure storage of all project data, so that it can be quickly accessed and distributed by authorized project participants." Organizations working on the power station will use Aconex to store and manage all their information - such as drawings, documents, mail and workflows - online in one central site.
This will allow team members to view, track, share and archive their information electronically, at any time and from any location.
The result of using Aconex is improved productivity through fast retrieval and distribution of data, and reduced printing and postage costs by transferring files electronically.
The system provides a fully searchable archive of all information throughout a project's lifecycle, and tracks document revisions and the status of correspondence.
This mitigates risks such as information loss and work being carried out from outdated drawings, which can often lead to expensive disputes and delays.
Aconex is the world's largest provider of online collaboration for construction and engineering projects.
From its 24 offices, the company services projects in more than 40 countries and manages information for projects with a combined value in excess of US$100 billion.
