Aconex collaboration technology for pipeline

Aconex has been selected to provide its online collaboration system to the GBP93 million Toowoomba Pipeline Project in Queensland, Australia.

The system will be used to manage information and link organisations involved in the construction of the pipeline, which is regarded as a crucial piece of infrastructure for the region.

The Toowoomba Pipeline project team includes Clough Projects, Diversified Construction Corporation and Maunsell AECOM, which are responsible for delivering the project to the Department of Infrastructure and Planning, under the guidance of LinkWater Projects.

Aconex, a web-based system for managing documents and correspondence, will be used to streamline communication and information-sharing between parties.

By using the system, project members will be able to view, distribute and track their information online through one secure, central platform.

Geoff Scott, Alliance Manager of the Toowoomba Pipeline Project said: "With Toowoomba's dams at little over ten per cent, the pipeline is an important piece of infrastructure to help manage the region's water needs".

"Aconex will give team members instant access to their drawings, documents, reports and mails".

"It will also provide us with a high level of transparency and accountability, which is essential on projects of this scale".

The 38-kilometre underground pipeline will transfer water from Wivenhoe Dam near Brisbane to Cressbrook Dam near Toowoomba, and provide water to more than 125,000 people in the region.

A compressed construction timetable will see the pipeline built by December 2009, before being fully operational in January 2010.

Aconex services GBP150 billion worth of projects across 70 countries.

Its clients include AECOM, Aldar, Arcadis, Buckingham Group, Chorus Group, Emaar, Farrans, Parsons Brinckerhoff, Las Vegas Sands and McDonald's Restaurants.
