Aconex has been selected by Balfour Beatty Ansaldo System Joint Venture to provide its online collaboration system to the Ipoh to Padang Besar Double Tracking Rail Extension in Malaysia.

Technology firm Aconex will be used to manage information and link organizations involved in the systems works package on the USD430 million project.

The project comprises the design, supply, installation and commissioning of all electrification, signaling and communications for 330 kilometers of new electrified double track railway.

Expected to be completed in 2013, the new project will increase line speed and track capacity while enhancing safety.

Aconex will provide its web-based platform for managing project information such as drawings, documents and correspondence.

Through using the system, the BBAS team and its project partners will be able to view, distribute and track information in real-time using a single, central platform.

Neil Ankcorn, BBAS Project Planning and Controls Manager said: "As this project involves a large team of both domestic and overseas-based participants, we require a central, integrated system for storing and exchanging information".

"With Aconex, all project members will be able to log into the system to quickly retrieve the files they need and correspond with other parties".

"This will improve efficiency, saving us time and cost associated with information exchange.
