The new emergency exit Paddle Handle from Adams Rite Europe Ltd is designed for simple push-pull operation, and forms a stylish alternative to conventional lever handles.

The high quality, ergonomic handle in 'push' conforms to BS EN 179:1998+A1:2001 standard and can be used on doors where, in emergency situations, users are familiar with the emergency exit and its hardware and therefore a panic situation is unlikely to develop Where panic situations may occur, the Adams Rite 900 Series exit bar should be fitted

At present the use of the 4591 paddle handle in the 'pull' mode is not within the scope of the standard and is not considered suitable for emergency exit doors.

Incorporating heavy-duty fixings, the 4591 Series paddle handle features a unique patented design and provides for four modes of operation: push to left, push to right or pull to left and pull to right.

A hold open feature is fitted as standard.

Three decorative finishes are available: satin anodised, dark bronze and black.

It is mandatory that all emergency exit doors are fitted with hardware that conforms with either BS EN 179 or BS EN 1125.

In order to meet the requirements of BS EN 179, the 4591 and 4596 paddle handles must be used as a system in conjunction with an Adams Rite 4710/4750 heavy-duty deadlatch and 8460 ramped jaw strike.

The 4591 paddle handle is also used in conjunction with a concealed vertical rod unit to create the 4781.

This device, which also conforms to BS EN 179, can be used to provide two point latching for emergency exit doors.
