The intelligent alternative to steel

An Advanced Building Composites product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Mar 31, 2008

ADD-A-STEP composite modular manhole ladder system is an alternative to steel ladders finding favour in gas and electrical, rail infrastructure and general construction applications.

Advanced Building Composites are specialist suppliers of drainage, construction and civils infrastructure products.

One of these products is the ADD-A-STEP composite modular manhole ladder system.

Initially developed in Australia for use in the Water and Wastewater industry as an alternative to steel ladders, the product is now also finding favour in Gas and Electrical, Rail Infrastructure and General Construction applications.

The ladder has been designed in such a way that assembly and installation is a quick and simple process and can be undertaken by one person.

Its modular construction also allows for the product to be available off the shelf for a next day delivery.

The Benefits of the ADD-A-STEP:.

* Modular design allows for economical transportation and storage.

* No measurements required prior to ordering - The ladder can be made up on site to any required length.

* Excellent insulation properties - can be used where electrical cables are present.

* The Fibre-Reinforced Plastic materials used are UV tolerant and non-corrosive.

* Reduced Health and Safety risks - No plant or machinery required on site.

* Easily removed from one site and re-installed at another.

* No painting or protective coating required.

* Tested in accordance with BS 14396.

A colour-coding convention can be adopted to ensure the correct marriage of ladder type to application: Yellow - Recommended for use in chemically aggressive areas such as sewer mains and manholes, Blue - Recommended for use with potable water immersion situations such as water tanks and towers, Orange - For use in corrosive environments and Black - General construction use where the ladder will be exposed to ultra violet light.

The product comes packaged into a purpose made box with each box containing enough modules to construct a 3 metre ladder.

Alternatively, Advanced are happy to supply ready made ladders to customers specific measurements.

These can be delivered to site ready for immediate installation.

Advanced also offer a range of access covers and frames and underground access chambers to complete any project package.
