AEC Cuts Energy Bills By 55% For London
Borough
Energy management specialist, AEC, has enabled the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to save 55% in energy costs, by identifying and resolving inefficient energy use in one district heating schemes.
AEC audited one development of Tower Hamlets, which suffered from exceptionally high fuel bills AEC immediately recognised that the boiler house of this development, despite being well maintained, was uncomfortably hot

UK Businesses - No Successful Energy Policies
Market research from energy consultant shows little evidence of successful implementation of energy policies.
Among other symptoms, this suggested that there was a great deal of waste and that major savings were achievable.
AEC conducted an energy audit to gauge the extent of the potential savings by capturing data over a 24-hour period.
Using their own software, AEC was then able to identify demand for energy from the building and then match control performance to it without affecting the delivery of heating and hot water services to the residents.
Tower Hamlets' one-off investment was approximately ?8,000 for a complete energy efficient control solution.
This has led to an outstanding 55% decrease in energy use, as proven directly from the actual boiler burn time, and the annual fuel bill falling from ?111,000 to ?50,000.
"Tower Hamlets is just one example that shows how a simple measure, such as getting the heating plant under appropriate control, can not only deliver huge savings but can be done with a rapid payback time," stated Julian Miller, director of AEC.
Paul Grimaldi, an energy engineer at Tower Hamlets, thoroughly endorses the process of investigating the possibility to make financial savings by maximising energy efficiency.
"We have now found that there is a regular pattern of fuel savings being achieved while maintaining service standards," said Grimaldi.
AEC's experience shows that savings achieved on most large systems range from 20% to as much as 50%, this is obviously significant, not only in financial terms, but also in helping to reduce carbon emissions.
