Ei Professional, distributed by Aico Ltd., has launched a radically new kind of mains powered smoke alarm base which, it says, will greatly reduce installation time on site.

The unique new Ei168 RadioLink base - which can be used with optical, ionisation and heat alarms - interconnects with other alarms on site via a transceiver and radio waves, rather than by hard wiring Therefore, it eliminates at a stroke not only the need to wire between alarms but also all need for trunking and redecoration after alarms are interconnected on a system

Ei and Aico say this means that complete systems can be installed in a fraction of the time and at significantly reduced costs.

The new Ei168 RadioLink base has a number of implications for specifiers, beyond simply a way of cutting costs without compromising safety.

For those involved in a rolling programme of installation covering a number of years, more properties can be covered faster, both in terms of budget and installer time.

Installing a system will be quicker and far less disruptive, which may help to persuade previously reluctant householders to agree to coverage.

Cost savings might also be put towards increasing coverage in a single property and - in some cases - may even make all the difference between whether or not a system is interconnected at all and thereby complies with BS.5839 Part 6.

Ei points out that the radio technology employed is already well proven in the security field.

Furthermore, the Ei168 RadioLink base is fully compatible with Ei's 140 and 160 series alarms, proven in literally hundreds of thousands of successful installations nationwide.

Ionisation, optical and heat models are all available, enabling the specifier to build a complete system to BS.5839 Part 6 and there's a choice of budget alkaline battery or ten year Lithium cell technology back-up as required.
