Faifley install Aico RadioLINK
Faifley Housing Association finds Aico RadioLINK the most convenient way to interconnect smoke alarms.
Faifley Housing Association has just completed installing Aico's RadioLINK wireless interconnect mains powered smoke alarms into 36 properties.
A small community-based housing association in Faifley, Cyldebank, Faifley Housing Association is responsible for 341 units in the area.
A number of these properties require the upgrading of smoke alarms as part of the Association's planned maintenance programme over three phases.
"Previously, our properties had a mixture of battery and mains powered alarms," says Maintenance Officer Stuart McQueen.
"We were unhappy about using battery units and also about the lack of interconnection between alarms in a property".
"We wanted to upgrade to mains-only protection and feature interconnection as a way of further improving the safety of our tenants".
Faifley Housing Association read about Aico's unique RadioLINK wireless interconnect technology in the trade press and decided to call in an Aico Sales RepresentativeSpecification Manager for a demonstration.
"We could see that it met our needs" says Mr.McQueen, "and that it would save us a lot of construction work".
"If we had to hard-wire all our alarms together we would probably have had to surface mount Wwire everything and that would have meant trunking everywhere".
To complement the RadioLINK technology, Faifley chose Aico's Ei160 Series mains powered alarms with 10 year plus Lithium cell back-up".
"This gave us peace of mind" Says Mr.McQueen".
"We knew that tenants would be adequately protected in the event of a power cut and there was no possibility of a battery running flat and failing to be replaced".
Phase One called for 36 properties to be protected using Aico RadioLINK and Ei160 Series alarms, with one ionisation alarm downstairs and an optical alarm upstairs in a typical two storey property.
The two alarms were then interconnected using RadioLINK with no need for hard wired interconnection.
Installation was carried out by C.K.
Heating of Glasgow, who installed new kitchens to the properties' at the same time.
They had no problems with installing the RadioLINK technology".
"We showed the RadioLINK technology to our tenants" says Mr.McQueen, "and they really liked the idea of all the alarms sounding at the same time in the event of a fire".
Having completed Phase One, Faifley is now moving on in two more phases to install RadioLINK and Ei160 alarms into a further 68 properties.
