Firecap gaskets prevent fire spreading

An Aico product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Nov 18, 2008

Firecap intumescent gaskets from Aico can help prevent fire from spreading through electrical accessories such as switches and sockets.

Switches and sockets have the potential to be the source of a fire due to arcing or defective wiring.

Firecap intumescent gaskets can play a vital role in combating this by containing the source of the fire and preventing fire spreading through holes made for wiring in fire stopping elements.

Easy to install, Firecap intumescent gaskets are designed to expand when exposed to fire, providing a highly effective stopping seal for up to 60 minutes.

They have been independently tested to BSEN and BS 476 Part 20 and Pt 22.

The gaskets' fire-stopping properties remain even when holes are made in them to accommodate cables.

For added safety, the Firecap gaskets are insulated with PVC to avoid the risk of electrical short circuit through the graphite material of the gasket.

As well as providing quality fire protection, Firecap gaskets provide an effective acoustic barrier to both impact and airborne sounds.

They can be used in wall systems up to and including 67db sound reduction without loss of the wall performance.

Firecap intumescent gaskets are available from Aico for single and twin switch socket pads for both surface and recessed shallow and deep boxes and as circular pads for ceiling roses and BESA boxes.

They are rot proof and maintenance free.

The intumescent gaskets form part of Aico's Firecap range of passive fire protection products.
