Barratt Green House uses Radiolink solution
Aico has announced that the Barratt Green House is using the Radiolink wireless interconnect mains-powered fire detection technology.
The Barratt Green House has been built at the Building Research Establishment in Watford by Barratt Developments PLC.
It represents a home that meets the government's Code for Sustainable Homes.
Jonathan Musgrove, senior electrical engineer with Arup, recommended a wireless interconnect system for the Barratt Green House.
'The concrete construction of the property and density of services within minimal floor voids meant that providing interconnecting wiring would be extremely difficult,' he said.
'The wireless option could provide the required interconnections between the detector and alarm units within the three-storey building, removing the need for additional wiring,' he added.
After researching the options, Arup selected Aico's Radiolink, which provides wire-free interconnection without the need for a panel.
Three EI160 series smoke alarms with Radiolink bases have been installed into the Barratt Green House, one on each floor, with the mains supply taken from the ceiling lighting.
If one alarm on the system is triggered, radio waves are used to cause every other alarm in the property to sound, thus ensuring everyone gets the earliest possible fire warning, wherever they are in the house.
The reduced wiring has further benefits as, under the Code for Sustainable Homes, there is also a requirement to make properties fully flexible in terms of services provision so they can be readily modified by any occupier.
Aico's Radiolink was suitable for this due to the minimised wiring.
