Sandtex Trade launches mineral paint system

Sandtex Trade launch Integrasil, a traditionally formulated mineral based masonry paint system revolutionised with the latest binder technology.

The Sandtex Trade Integrasil system, which comprises a potassium silicate mineral based finish and two high performance primers, has been specially developed to protect and stabilise the most vulnerable of exterior substrates and maintain surface breathability.

Sandtex Trade Integrasil is ideal for a wide range of substrates including masonry, stone, concrete and renders, as well as traditional lime and earthen plasters.

Unlike conventional exterior masonry paint systems, which create an impermeable layer on the surface of the substrate, the potassium silicate within Sandtex Trade Integrasil penetrates deep into the substrate's pores and creates a permanent chemical bond.

Importantly, this bond, while consolidating and protecting the surface, also enables the substrate to breathe, which is crucial in maintaining a healthy building fabric.

Nicola Kenyon, Sandtex Trade product manager, explained: "If a structure cannot release moisture vapour into the atmosphere, the water will become a permanent feature of the building envelope; this can then cause problems such as damp, organic growth and loss of thermal insulation properties.

Also, if the water freezes and expands, it can cause lifelong damage to the substrate.

"As Integrasil binds with the substrate, it ensures the exterior is fully protected from the weather and allows moisture vapour to escape, preserving the integrity of the building.

This technology means that Sandtex Trade Integrasil is particularly suited to heritage properties where breathability is critical, as well as external structures such as outbuildings, garages or agricultural buildings that do not benefit from a damp-proof course".

Alongside its ability to protect exterior surfaces, the Sandtex Trade Integrasil system has inherent fungicidal properties, which inhibit further organic growth and eradicate the need for a separate treatment prior to top coat application.

In addition, the Integrasil system provides a traditional mineral decorative finish that delivers excellent lightfastness.

The new system includes the Integrasil topcoat and a choice of primer - Integrasil Primer for uncoated porous mineral surfaces and Integrasil Bridging Primer for substrates previously coated with organic materials such as emulsion-based paints.

All Sandtex Trade Integrasil products are available in 5 litre cans.
