Alco Beldan Ltd have carried out two major contracts at The Grove near Watford, described by Conde Nast Traveller as 'one of the top 50 coolest hotels in the world'

The Grove, near Watford, described by Conde Nast Traveller as ?one of the top 50 coolest hotels in the world', even impressed British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, who on a recent visit declared the décor as ?groovy-grand' The Grove combines luxurious five star hotel facilities with a superb conference centre, health spa and swimming pool complex and golf club

Alco Beldan Ltd carried out two major contracts at The Grove.

Working with architects Scott Brownrigg Turner and interior designers Fox Lynton Associates they provided highly sound resistant movable walls for the ballroom and meeting rooms.

The ballroom is sub-divided by eight movable walls to provide space for 700 delegates or 8 separate meeting rooms.

Decorated in blond wood veneers with inlay details the movable walls are rated 55db Rw to provide the best possible acoustic privacy between rooms.

Working with main contractor Galliford Try, Alco Beldan helped to overcome the major technical challenges of designing sufficient storage pockets for the movable panels in the most space efficient way, and co-ordinating the tracking design with the steelwork and services contractors.

The second major contract Alco Beldan undertook at The Grove was specialist glazing systems through their Glassplan division.

Glassplan was specified by Fitzroy Robinson Architects to provide highly thermally insulated glazing surrounds to the Sequoia health spa pools and courtyards.

?Visoglade' straight sliding panels allow large sections of wall to be opened so that in fine weather the spa pools and Zen courtyard gardens can be directly accessed from the basement health club.

Particularly striking is the visual combination of anodised aluminium frames and graphite grey enamel backed sections of glass, which blend with the modern and luxurious surroundings.

Alco Beldan recommended the use of toughened and laminated low ?e' glazing to ensure safety particularly as parts of the glazing are directly alongside the pool.
