Prestigious Award for Hafod Renewal
Area, Swansea

Alumasc Render products for the Group Repair scheme and won a prestigious award at the Lord Mayor of Swansea Design Awards 2004 for the Hafod Renewal Area Project.

The City and Council of Swansea Council's Housing Department specified Alumasc Render products for its Group Repair scheme and won a prestigious award at the Lord Mayor of Swansea Design Awards 2004 for the Hafod Renewal Area Project The Architectural Enhancement (Group Repair Scheme) award recognises high standards in architecture and development in Swansea and is presented to those who have demonstrated excellence in the quality of designs to buildings

Alumasc's M.R.S7 Polymer Cement Spar Dash Render finish was specified for the external refurbishment of the properties due to its high durability and aesthetic qualities.

M.R.S7 is applied in one-coat and due to its polymer and fibre reinforcement, has greater bond strength than traditional sand and cement renders, making it less susceptible to cracking and crazing.

M.R.S7 has earned BBA approval and is covered by Certificate 93/2895.

The Alumasc technical team worked closely with the Council to formulate a suitable design solution for the external refurbishment of the properties.

Complete renewal of the facade was required, with the removal of existing damaged render followed by the application of M.R.S3 dubbing render and glass fibre scrim reinforcement to support the finish coat.

M.R.S7 completed the new facade with Luxovite aggregate dash, resulting in a weathertight, attractive finish to the properties.

A wide selection of M.R.S7 render colours are available along with a choice of spar dash aggregates, allowing the specification of a suitable design to blend into the surrounding built environment.

The City and County of Swansea targeted Hafod for long term regeneration over a ten-year period due to the area's gradual decline, with the aim of 'working with partners and the people of Hafod community to secure sustainable, economic, social and environmental improvements to the neighbourhood and to build a thriving community equipped to meet future challenges'.

To date Swansea Council have completed group repairs to approximately 225 houses and have commenced work on a further 57 properties. Request a free brochure from Alumasc Exterior Building Products ...
