Armaseam standing seam roofing from Alumasc has provided a striking, high performance roofing solution on the accommodation blocks at Limerick University.
The barrel vault roof and lower level radial shaped roofs feature mill-finished stucco embossed profiles, with bright green eaves details specified to contrast with timber cladding.
Bullnose fascias were coated in green PVDF finish to give the appearance of weathered copper.
The architects chose Armaseam because of the huge range of benefits it delivers in terms of design freedom, ease of installation and outstanding performance for the life of the building.
By choosing varying panel widths, different materials, finishes and colours - including the curved panels used at St Radigunds - designers can realise their most creative schemes at an economical cost.
Armaseam is also extremely versatile, being suitable for low pitches of down to 1.5 degrees.
Based on the well-proven principle of zip-up roofing, Armaseam is virtually maintenance free, completely weatherproof and requires no penetrative fixings.
Instead, the panels are roll formed from continuous strip coil to any required length and then mechanically seamed together onto secret-fixed clips.
Effectively, this makes the roof covering seamless - and with no joints or end laps, rainwater penetration is eliminated.
At the same time, this watertight system is still allowed to 'breathe'.
The architects for the St Radigunds project were Richard Daniels Associates of Ashford, Kent and the contractor Durable Contracts of Belvedere.
Both Armaseam and Skyline form part of Alumasc's range of metal roofing solutions.
Armaseam is BBA certified, fully compliant with Building Regulations L2 and is fire rated at AA to BS476:Part 3.
