The location affords spectacular views from its bay edge location, but is also exposed to wind, rain and sea salt.
The M.R.Swisrail system met all the requirements of the project: easy installation, excellent thermal performance and outstanding weather protection from the elements.
M.R.Swisrail system is particularly easy to install into steel framed structures such as the Osborne.
Based on a network of rails and channels, it incorporates an integral 25mm drained cavity, providing a seamless insulated facade that satisfies NHBC and Building Regulation requirements.
It meets the NHBC requirement for a drained cavity of at least 15mm between the frame and the EWI, while the Alumasc Cavity Fire Seal at separating walls and compartment floors satisfies Approved Document B.
At the same time, the cavity design ensures adequate drainage in the unlikely event of water penetration, while also preserving the integrity of the insulated system by restricting free air movement.
The 90mm expanded polystyrene insulation was specified to achieve a U Value in excess of 0.26W/m2K.
The Osborne has been faced with M.R.ST lightweight silicone render in white from a choice of over 400 colours and finishes, all renowned for their fastness and consistency in colour.
The end result is a weatherproof exterior which is fire-safe, resistant to impact and salt damage and requires minimal maintenance.
The project architects were Powell Dobson Architects and the developer was Meadgate Homes.
The system was installed by Specialist External Render Systems , with the main contractors being Stradform, all based in the Cardiff area. Request a free brochure from Alumasc Exterior Building Products ...
